Balancing inclusion and exclusion among Somali migrants in Germany

We discuss the balancing acts of inclusion and exclusion by analysing how Somali migrants in Germany attempt to manoeuvre between various norms, individual interests social networks. Building on Glick Schiller Caglar (2016), whose work urban sociabilities emphasizes relations which people act as equals, we argue that ethnic (self-)identification is important it serves a basis for boundary-making bonding within bridging linking groups. Thus, focus sociability identification (as category praxis) can, some cases, go hand hand. Moreover, into local communities, often discussed public discourse leading from German society, helps establish connections. Simultaneously, through racism can lead (self-)isolation Somalis, but also places pressure younger Somalis particular forge alliances with non-Somali Germans stabilize their situation. Balancing among therefore have ambiguous at times paradoxical outcomes.
